A Clinician's Guide to Client Engagement

Are you like me? Sitting in that space between Christmas and New Year's where you don't know what day it is, who you are, or what to do with yourself?

If you are, take a few minutes to sign up for a course that could possibly change how you practice.

Our practitioners and practices have had a huge focus on better client engagement and the client journey this year. So with all of those learnings, we've created a massive course with at least four lectures and 5 handouts. A lot of learnings and love went into this aspect of client engagement.

With that said, we're launching it so you can have it too.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

1. Provide a solid foundation for the client journey to better clinical outcomes.

2. Re-establish your client conversations by thinking of the client's journey in four phases. (Foundation setting, skills building, maintenance and follow up).

3. Solidify your own best practice journey.

4. Work on your ability to have the hard conversations (attendance, cancellation fees, why your practice works the way it does).

An example of what we cover:

FUNDAMENTALS: The first session conversations

Our first session suggestion is to increase your first session by 30 minutes. Yes, this will mean charging more. However, it provides you with enough breathing space to do what needs to be done.

With the practices we work with, we also help the clinicians re-work the fundamentals around the first session. Aside from increasing the time in the first session we also encourage creating more space to do the work you need to do. How? By changing your mindset.

1. Extend the conversation with the client to explain that the first three sessions are for rapport building.

If the client understands that the first three sessions are to help build the foundation of therapy they can see you slowing the expectation of the rush to be “fixed”.

But Medicare…

Please stop with that thought right now.

When Medicare comes into conversations, the unfortunate side effect is that the clinician is not actually placing the client’s therapeutic needs first. When Medicare is the first point of discussion, it limits the number of sessions the client works with you.

When you remove all barriers and you see the client for what they are seeking, map a loose journey in your head about what the outcomes can be as well as understanding where the barriers play a role, you are more equipped to speak to your client about the limitations of Medicare. (If the client only needs a few sessions, then okay, Medicare isn’t limiting).

When the first three sessions are used for establishing boundaries and helping the client build the foundation of therapy, the client is prepared to be engaged and makes an informed decision about their own commitment to their journey in therapy.

Don't miss out on your chance to strengthen client engagement in your practice. Enroll in our Client Engagement Course.
