Book Recommendation # 7: Damien Adler

Writer's picture: Natasha AceNatasha Ace

If you want a great business example of how reaching out to a complete stranger can change your life, let me tell you how I met Damien. I sent a quick hello via LinkedIn and waited.

I didn't have to wait long, Damien replied and the spark was lit. Damien is the co-founder of Power Diary and we love this practice management system. We also love our conversations and ideas that are generated every time we meet up. When we asked Damien for his recommendation he was headed overseas and I was worried maybe he wouldn't have a chance to reply. However, reader, you and I are in luck. Damien's book recommendation is a good one and on top of that, he was kind enough to share his notes from when he read the book! Talk about added bonus!

How to Win Friends and Influence People

By: Dale Carnegie

"I first read this in my late teens and it has shaped my thinking ever since. In fact I liked it so that I wrote out the key points on a scrap of paper and carried it around in my wallet as a reminder for years. I actually still have the notes in my office a home : ) (pic attached here.) The book is written in a casual tone, which makes it easy to read, yet it is packed with powerful and usable suggestions that really work. It's not just about providing tips though, it actually changes the way you think about how to best interact with people. I don't necessarily agree with everything he talks about, but it is well worth a read - and a reread :)"

Now, this book was written in 1936 with over five million copies sold, so we assume at least one of you have read this book. If you have, share with us what you liked / didn't like about it. For the rest of us, we'll add it to our TBR (To Be Read) pile and in the meantime, use Damien's cliff notes to get us where we need to go.
