How do you feel your year has gone? Did you find you struggled or thrived? For the most part, I see a lot of clients (and have found myself) who just allow their days, weeks and months to pass them by. We live so day to day that we can't even remember what has happened.
Last week, I emailed our clients to encourage them to reflect on their year. This week, I've been prompted by Isaac Jeffries to have a personal mid-year review. So here I am, publishing a kind of personal yet enriching post. Unlike Isaac's format, I'm going to use the format that we've presented to our clients for their practices.
Milestones
For me personally, the biggest milestone was finally leaving a full time role. As many know, I worked for myself in the States and while I have learned so much, I have missed the freedom of being my own boss.
I have learned a hard lesson about glass ceilings. During my 15 year career, I haven't felt a glass ceiling until the last few years. It was quite frustrating to me. I felt the power imbalance of being a confident, yet at times vulnerable, human being.
What I've learned, though, is even if you can break through that glass ceiling, if you aren't helping others through the same issues, then you aren't doing enough. In this space, I want to empower as many humans as possible. There is a lot of conflict in the field at the moment and I sincerely hope with the launch of our new platform, Australian Mental Health Alliance, we're going to do that.
We gave away so much content and have built pathways for practitioners to forge their own careers in private practice. A few key things we've developed:
This platform allows practitioners to launch their own content and learn from each other.
A step by step failproof way to organise your GP lunches.
We've been lucky enough to work with enough practitioners and practices to gather case studies! How privileged are we to help clinicians develop their practices?
We launched our client journey mapping, client engagement and practitioner scorecards with our clients.
We've had over 2,000 website visits since our launch with zero Google Analytics and no SEO.
We launched our Private Practice Wastage e-book.
We've given away over 40 hours to practices in reviewing their practice gaps.
We've helped over 200 contractors and principal psychologists change their mindset around contractor pay arrangements.
Barriers
Whilst we've learned a lot this year, we're still learning. There are a number of questions we're still searching for the answers to. While some may be a bit elusive, like the meaning of life, others will just take some time to find the answers.
One question is how do we learn to be fluid and not collapse under the expectation of the weight of inclusivity? We will continue to seek out the right practices for our model.
Another key question is why do so many practices and clinicians know they need assistance but still choose to do nothing? How can we obtain the commitment to best practice standards as a priority? The whole stages of change, applied to a consulting practice!
We're continuing to build our reputation. While we're not new to this space, we have to continue to build our brand awareness. We're excited to keep developing in this space and to be working with so many diverse people.
What's to come?
SO MUCH! Sorry, I didn't mean to scream that at you, but my excitement is overwhelming, even to me! Pana and I are getting our branding photos this week. We're interviewing marketing agencies to help us get our message out. We're creating more and more online courses and have a trillion ideas to launch in the new year. We're growing our presence in NSW and continuing our growth in WA and VIC.
We're going to keep learning and being agile! We're going to make an impact in this space one day and one week at a time. We're not going to sell big hairy audacious goals, but instead hold the hands of our clients to go through their private practice journey with them.
We're going to empower and be empowered.
We're excited and we're ready for what 2019 has in store with us.
